Dear Brushy Creek MUD residents,
We want to take this opportunity to inform you of a District project that has been ongoing since 2023. Through the District Median Tree Survey, and the Great Oaks Median Tree Study, contracted arborists have been working with District employees to catalog all the trees along the median of Great Oaks Drive within BCMUD. This does not include the trees on the right-of-way (ROW) on either side of Great Oaks Drive.
One objective of the project is to catalog each tree according to its health status and then remove those that pose a risk to public safety. Occasionally, you may see crews cutting down trees in the median that look healthy, but have been identified by an arborist as unhealthy, unsafe, or not suitable for preservation.
As one example, On April 30, 2025, BCMUD crews noticed a tree located on the Great Oaks Drive median near its intersection with O’Connor Drive that appeared healthy but was unstable due to being hollowed out by insects. Because of high-wind conditions, the BCMUD team safely felled the tree in a controlled manner before it could be blown down and create a road blockage or even injury to residents and motorists.
While this project is limited to the Great Oaks Drive median, we want to encourage all BCMUD residents to exercise caution with trees on their property that likewise may appear healthy but could be damaged internally.
